Live simply. Live naturally. Live from the land.
At Romelda Residences, sustainability is not something we have added to the houses as a feature. It is the way Romelda has evolved and the way we live here every day.
The Woodlands houses are fully off-grid, with backup systems providing the security and comfort our guests expect. But being off-grid is only one part of the story. Romelda is a working homestead, where much of what we eat and use comes from the land around us.
From the homestead gardens.
Our organic vegetable gardens provide fresh, seasonal produce, while chickens and ducks supply eggs. Our fruit trees provide a constantly changing selection of seasonal fruit, and guests are welcome to pick what is ready to eat.
Fish, fruit trees & the wider land.
We rear fish on the property, with fish being released back into Lake Mutirikwi to help support the lake’s fish population. Bananas and avocados are grown not only for Romelda but also to share with the surrounding community. Our macadamia trees provide nuts for roasting, cooking, and making our own macadamia butter, while beehives on the property produce organic honey.
Beyond our boundaries.
For us, sustainability also means looking beyond our own fences. Many of the other foods and everyday products we need are sourced from neighbouring smallholdings and homesteads. This helps support the local community while giving our guests access to fresh, locally produced food rather than relying on products transported long distances.
Take what you need from the land.
One of the pleasures of staying at Romelda Residences is that you can become part of this way of living.
Pick vegetables for your dinner.
Collect fresh eggs from the chickens or ducks.
Pick fruit straight from the trees.
Catch a fish from the lake.
Buy fresh produce from a neighbouring homestead.
It is a simple connection between where food comes from and where it ends up on your plate, something that can be easily lost in modern life.
Wellness is part of the lifestyle.
Sustainable living is also about looking after yourself. The Woodlands houses are complemented by an eco-friendly pool, an on-site spa, and gym, creating spaces where guests can swim, exercise, relax, and recharge.
Whether it is an early morning swim, a walk through the woodland, a session in the gym, a treatment at the spa, or simply sitting outside with a cup of coffee, the environment encourages a slower and healthier rhythm.
Nothing is simply thrown away.
We also take our responsibility for waste seriously. Where possible, waste is separated for recycling, organic material is composted, and other suitable waste is repurposed, for example, to help heat water for staff accommodation and facilities.
It is not about claiming that Romelda leaves no footprint. It is about understanding our footprint and continually finding better ways to reduce it.
A different way to stay.
Woodlands Romelda gives guests the opportunity to experience sustainable living without giving up the comforts of modern life. You have your own private, comfortable off-grid home, reliable backup systems, internet, a pool, spa, and gym, but outside your door is a living, working homestead.
Here, sustainability is something you can see, taste, and experience. This is sustainable living at Romelda, not as an idea, but as a way of life.
