Meet Your Hosts

Romelda is first and foremost a family home, and when you stay here, you become part of that family story.

Dave is the current custodian of Romelda. His career and passion have taken him into small-scale agriculture and development widely across Africa until 2025, while living and working in several different countries along the way. His love of the outdoors, farming, practical development and, particularly, skills transfer can be seen throughout Romelda. Whether it is developing the grounds, improving the property, working with the team, or finding another use for something that might otherwise be thrown away, Dave is rarely far from the next project.

Dave’s wife, Lisa, is an important part of the Romelda story. She continues Pat’s legacy by nurturing and developing the gardens, helping to shape the beautiful environment that surrounds the homestead. Behind the scenes, Lisa also keeps a close eye on the financial side of the property, overseeing the accounts and record keeping that keep everything running smoothly. Between the gardens and the books, Lisa makes sure both the visible and less visible parts of Romelda continue to grow.

Dave’s daughter, Amy, is at the heart of the hospitality operation. With formal hospitality training and previous experience in the industry, Amy manages the property and looks after the many details that make guests feel welcome. She is involved in almost everything: guest experiences that begin with handling most reservations, staff and HR matters, checking on the property, and shaping her own future visions for Romelda, through to sharing stories and chats with guests around the grounds. Her extensive travel background has given her a strong appreciation and understanding of different cultures, enabling her to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and meet them where they are.

Amy’s partner, Tyler, is the man behind much of what happens away from the dining table. He coordinates the food and activities on the property, helping guests make the most of their time at Romelda. He is also, unofficially, Mr Fix-It. If something needs building, repairing, moving, organising, or simply figuring out, Tyler is usually somewhere nearby. Together, Amy and Tyler form the day-to-day heart of the Romelda hospitality operation. They live in the original cottage where Helen and Owen first made their home: the fourth generation on this same ground.

And then there is Callum. Born in 2023, Callum is the fifth generation of the family to occupy Romelda, and at three years old, he has already established who really runs the place. He can be found exploring the play areas, picking vegetables from the garden, investigating whatever the adults are doing, or simply roaming around the property making demands of anyone within earshot. He is growing up surrounded by gardens, woodland, animals, water, and people, and learning, as previous generations did, that Romelda is as much a place to live as it is a place to work.

The Romelda team is much larger than the family, of course. Our staff and the people from the surrounding community who work with us are an integral part of daily life here. But at the centre of it all is a family that has been connected to this place for generations. We don’t just invite you to stay at Romelda. We invite you into our home.
