The world is changing, and so is the way people want to travel. Increasingly, people are looking beyond traditional holidays and busy itineraries. They want to travel with a purpose, to experience a place rather than simply visit it. We see families travelling as digital nomads, groups of friends sharing the cost of a longer adventure, older travellers choosing to slow down and take their time, and professionals looking for somewhere inspiring to write, work, or simply step away from everyday life.
I wish we had more time here.
The idea for Woodlands Romelda grew from conversations with the many international guests who have stayed at Romelda. Again and again, we heard the same thing: “I wish we had more time here.”
Zimbabwe, and Africa as a whole, can seem like a distant or daunting dream for people who have never experienced it. Yet once they arrive, they discover a continent of extraordinary landscapes, cultures, wildlife, and people. We wanted to create a place that makes it easier for people to stay longer, travel more slowly, and discover Africa for themselves, without the cost, pressure, and rigid itineraries traditionally associated with an African holiday.
Woodlands Romelda is our answer to that.
Our vision for Woodlands, and for Romelda as a whole, is to give people the time, freedom, and comfort to experience the real Africa. The houses are designed around outdoor living, combining the simplicity and connection to nature that comes from living off-grid with the comforts and expectations of modern life. Set within the natural woodland of our working homestead, they offer privacy, space, and the freedom to make each day your own.
Here, there is no need to rush. Lake Mutirikwi is just metres away. There are secluded walks through indigenous woodland, magnificent African sunsets, abundant birdlife and wildlife, fresh produce from the homestead, and a national park on our doorstep. Beyond Romelda are countless experiences that can be reached in a day or over a few days, many of them well away from the established tourist routes.
Freedom to explore, with care at home.
We also understand that having the freedom to explore is easier when the everyday chores are taken care of. Our Muchindas help with cleaning, laundry, and the practical things that allow our guests to spend their time doing what they came here to do.
Whether you are a family living and learning on the road, a couple looking for a slower African adventure, a group travelling together, a writer needing inspiration, or simply someone who wants the time to understand a country rather than tick it off a list, Woodlands Romelda is designed to give you that time.
This is not simply a place to stay. It is a place to live for a while, explore at your own pace, meet the people, experience the landscape, and discover the Africa that exists beyond the itinerary. That is our vision for Woodlands Romelda, and for Romelda as a whole.
